Artist's Statement Rebecca Sharp (b. 1989, Sweden) lives and works in Umeå in the North of Sweden. My artistic practice revolves around change, loss, and transformation, where the living shifts between presence and absence, between preservation and impermanence. I explore the threshold where memory meets forgetting, where nature and human history intersect, where control and freedom exist in a constant state of tension. The works carry a quiet awareness of what is no longer fully accessible: the fragile, the fleeting, and the sacred. Through interdisciplinary expressions in drawing, photography, sculpture, and installation, I investigate the vulnerability of existence and of nature itself. I seek a dialogue between the conceptual and the poetic, between research and intuition. My works create intimate, ritual spaces for reflection and reformation, a place where personal and collective losses can take shape. Through material and form, I highlight both nature’s own will and our attempts to control it. Themes of collapse, transformation, and rebirth recur as invitations to introspection and change. My work is an ongoing excavation of loss and hope in a time marked by ecological threats, political unrest, and climate crisis, a voice in the conversation on the most urgent existential questions of our time.
