This artwork offers an exchange: a small square of turf has been removed from the grounds of Delapré Abbey and swapped for a square of turf from a site in Sweden that is precious to the artist.
Establishing a connection between two countries, and between the public and the personal, the turf and its roots become a symbol of the human body and a representation of immigration, emigration and ultimately of integration. Over time these two visually similar but genetically distinct types of turf will gradually merge with each other - each changed, even if that is no longer visible to the casual observer.
